As you can see, I've finished my crochet scrap rug! It was a fantastic project for when I wanted to keep busy but didn't want to think about it too much, I seem to have a lot of those kinds of projects lately...
I wasn't completely happy with how it turned out after blocking (yes, I actually blocked this, please be proud of me). Even after some determined pinning, and repinning after kitty noticed it, it still curls a little at the edges.
But it still does it's intended job as a soft surface to step onto getting out of bed.
This mat was crocheted completely out of scrap DK yarn with fiber types ranging from merino wool to soy/cotton (the mustard yellow). There is even some yarn I dyed myself, the bright blue and the red/orange/yellow superwash wool.
I honestly have no idea what size hook I used, all I know is that it is the only hook I have, an outcast in my crafting corner.
As predicted, kitty enjoys using this as a sled or as a comfortable place to sit while obsessively watching birds through the window.
The colors are cheerful to step on in the morn :O). Were the yarns in different weights?
ReplyDeleteWell done, I'm not surprised your kitty loves it, looks like a perfect cat spot!
ReplyDeleteFun! Love the colors you dyed yourself.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love those scrap crochet projects. I made a baby blanket not to long ago entirely out of scrap baby yarn. Glad kitty likes it. We are here to serve them.
ReplyDeleteTHAT IS GORGEOUS! Almost like all those yarns were MEANT to be together. And the fact that kitty loves it makes it even better.
ReplyDeletePS My mom LOVE it! She's a crocheter lol
Your rug turned out BEAUTIFUL! Great job!!!! I love the mix of color - a very bright start in the day :)
ReplyDeleteMy kitty would absolutely love a rug like that to slide across the apartment ;)
Itb turned out great at least yours sides are sort of straight every time I try they go off at and angle!! Good colour combo
ReplyDeleteCool mat! Love the colors and what a great way to use scrap yarn. My kitty would be hiding under it. She loves to play hide and seek with the dogs under rugs. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love it. I was already having hysterics when I read the sentence "she will see this as a kitty-sized sled" in the previous post and now I was SO GLAD to see that you picked that up again! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot and it is not ghastly as you feared. ;) Sure, the colours are not following a scheme or a colour family, but in my humble opinion, the rug's charm lies exactly there.
WELL DONE! :) (and sorry that I haven't written any comments for so long)
So maybe it isn't really a scrap rug. You just wanted an excuse to crochet a kitty sled. Can't fool me.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I wish I had a cat so I could make a kitty sled:) That is the best visual (in my head) ever!
ReplyDeleteSo cheerful! I love how this turned out! I can imagine it puts a smile on your face first thing in the morning!
ReplyDeleteCute! It looks great.
ReplyDeletewhat a colourful project!
ReplyDeleteSmart kitty--probably thinking, "for me?"! Love how your colors turned out together
ReplyDelete*smiles*
Well done: a great use of scraps and so cheerful.
ReplyDeleteA sled! haha! Cats... they are such a mystery to me, even after years of having cats. The colors turned out really spectacular together, really not at all as if they were just scrap yarns! It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteALL of my knitting/crochet becomes a kitty bed whenever i leave it anywhere - so good you ahve something fit for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of scrap yarn!
i cant believe you only have one hook! Shameful :P
Good use of scrap yarn. I never use the bits and pieces I have stowed in baskets. I really need to do something like this.
ReplyDeleteIt serves the purpose you wanted...something to step on, it used up scraps, so that's double. Cotton doesn't block well, so it wasn't you.
ReplyDeleteSandy Happy it's Friday
I love your kitty sled!
ReplyDeleteHa! Kitty Sled, we need an action photo!
