Thank you so much to those of you which left feedback on my infinity scarf, you all are just so wonderful and helpful. Is there anything a group of knitters can't solve?
So, I finished up the wacky infinity scarf and tried it on to get a better idea of how much I might like it.
The answer is, not so much. I know that a lot of you really liked the color combination, but I highly suspect that is because the green appeared gray on some monitors. But no judgement here if you liked the mix, everyone has their own distinct aesthetic. The color is more of an army green, a gray would have gone nicely when paired with the yellow though.
And so, I faced the hard truth and frogged my poor scarf. But I'm still glad I knitted it, it was a fun little project and I loved working with the wool/cotton blend. I'm definitely looking forward to knitting it up into something else (each color separately of course).
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! I especially hope that everyone up on the East Coast is staying warm after the snow.
I still like it, the stripes are pretty! But I totally get it, olive green and yellow is not a good combination.
ReplyDeleteSeeing these pictures I agree with you that they do not go together. I though they were grey and if you could get a grey it would look so cute! Either way that pattern is super adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe decision to frog was a good one if you were unhappy with the result. Trust your instincts.
ReplyDeletelol, I saw it as brown, which looked cute, but yeah I can see army green today and understand your decision. Good work on frogging it already!
ReplyDeleteI still think the color combination could work. Although it might need to be arranged differently. But why keep something you aren't happy with.
ReplyDeleteThe key is if you don't love it, then why do it. Good for you! Sometimes it is hard to frog projects, especially when you have put so much time into it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for pulling it out if you don't like it. There will be a perfect design out there waiting for that yarn.
ReplyDeleteThat's what we love about yarn
ReplyDeletewe can frog and use it again
that's the cheapest part of knitting :^)
we just love knitting
hugs
It's always a disappointment when you don't like a piece you've knitted. (I always have to wait a while before I frog, it's too sad!). You'll find a better use for the yarn, I'm sure. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh bummers :O(. Sorry you had to frog it all. Oh well. The yarns are meant for better things and this project you'll find a combo that will make you happier.
ReplyDeleteSometimes frogging has to happen. Not bad, though! That color combo might work well for a boy.
ReplyDeleteI see why you frogged it. I thought it was grey and yellow. But you are right the olive green was kinda icky. Glad you still liked to knit it.
ReplyDeleteJust the fact that you can get any knitting done at all with all that studying you have to do, amazes me. You must be very good a making use of your time.
ReplyDeleteYeah now that i see that the green is in fact green, I think frogging is the right thing to do if your not in love. Both are lovely in their own skein but just didn't have enough contrast. It was lovely needle work though. Next time, it will work out.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I love wool-cotton blends. They're wonderful to work with and to wear.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried any slip stitch combinations? It's amazing how different stitch combos can completely shift color relationships.
Linen and Half-Linen stitches are the first to come to mind, but the options are endless. I could even see knitting one section solid yellow, the center section in two colors and the third in solid green. Just a thought.
can you dye the army green black? because a bumblebee scarf would be charming!
ReplyDeleteIt looked nice but I have to agree with you. I hope you turn it into something even more beautiful! Btw I'm halfway through the first cowl!
ReplyDeleteIt's always hard to make the decision to frog it. In your original post it looked grey to me. In this one it looked brown. Olive green going to be hard to find something to go with. I still like the yellow.
ReplyDeleteBoy you're right, it looks totally different color wise in the cake vs in the mobius. Mobius looks tan and gold. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but no doubt you'll find something you like better. Good luck
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad, but sometimes things just gotta be frogged. Maybe the color combination would be better if it was knit into gloves or something? Sometimes color opinions change drastically depending on how they're worn to your face.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! These colors look completely different! I'm glad you first persevered and then decided to use your time on something more pleasing. :) I know this yarn will become something beautiful some day!
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm meeting with my Fiber Arts Club today and am showing them your blog. I've made 40 drop spindles (way too many) and am busy sanding. They are top whorl spindles and seem to work okay. I love your mobius.
ReplyDeleteOops. Just took the time to read your blog and saw that my comment about your mobius doesn't fit with what you said about it. It does look kind of nice in the picture, although I do agree with you about the colors.
ReplyDeleteOh... mmhm, I was seeing it as gray the first time. I agree with your decision-- each color is lovely on its own, and I'm sure you'll find a lovely project for each one sometime in the future. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to tear out a knitting project, but I have found that I am always happy when I do it, especially if I really like the yarn. I'm sure you will make something else with it that you will really enjoy and get to wear a lot. Have a nice long weekend!
ReplyDeleteRipping out knitting is so hard to do, but I think you'll be happy to have trusted your instincts. Your yarn just hasn't found its destiny yet! :) I hope you're doing well!!
ReplyDeleteAwh, too bad! Good for you for being able to rip it out though. I usually just let it languish in a closet somewhere. : )
