I've been wanting to knit a pair of Skew socks for a while now because the construction of the pattern fascinates me. Even better, they are knit toe-up!
Mmmmm rainbow-y
I bought the yarn while visiting Lisa last summer, which is great because we always end up buying way too much yarn (we help each other justify it because that's what good knitting friends do, right?).
This is Crystal Palace Yarns Mini-Mochi, which I have been wanting to try for a while now. It certainly has not been a disappointment and looks so neat with the pattern so far. The color is beyond my photography skills to accurately capture, so here's a photo in a different light just to confuse you.
--> Skew is on my list of fiber goals for 2013
I want to truly thank everyone who commented on my last post with words of support on my life philosophy. This is first time I have revealed this about myself, outside of my immediate family and humanist/atheist social support group, without being met with some kind of open fear and animosity.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This means so incredibly much to me.
Your sock is lovely! I have had that pattern on my mental to do list. I really should cast it on...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I cast on my first pair of toe-up socks only recently and Skew seemed to complicated for me. Let's see ...
ReplyDeleteOh, one more word about your last posting: I think it's never easy to reveal things that are in a way very private (such as a believe system or a life philosophy) in public (which the internet is). I have to admit, I'm surprise that I didn't get any hatred yet for writing about my faith. ;) You were brave writing that so openly.
In the end, we live on this planet together and we should have respect for each other. :) That's important. Regardless of the motives. ;)
Your socks look great. You are entitled to be and believe what you want to believe and actually its no ones else business
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI tried to knit Skew when it first came in Knitta few years ago, but I somehow made a total mess with the heel and gave up.
I really like the design, so I might give them another try someday.
Have a great weekend!
That's an interesting sock pattern! I have some long-stashed Mini Mochi that I never thought about knitting socks with. (And yes, the best knitting friends are the ones who enable you!)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how these turn out.
I've never heard of this pattern, but it looks intriguing. The yarn you're using is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteOooooooooh that yarn! /drool
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for gradual color changes and an even bigger sucker for rainbow-colored yarns.
Love how you have a partner-in-crime for yarn! I totally LOL'd at the vision of you two justifying your yarn picks at the LYS.
ReplyDeleteWhat neat yarn. Mochi colors are so fun. Let us know how it wears. I'm curious b/c of the fuzz...will it pill?
I have never tried mini mochi either, and I see a lot of them and the colors are always fascinating. Great sock pattern too.
ReplyDeleteI think our very first conversation on Raverly was about religion (and/or spindle spinning)! I am a Christian and think its very important to respect the religious decision of others even if its not the same as mine. This planet is a lot smaller than people think and we really, REALLY need to get along better and to respect each others personal decisions.
ReplyDeleteYou are a total sweetheart and a awesome knitter. You've always been super helpful, sweet and kind to me so no judging here!
*yarnie hug*
OOOOOHHH, I am so glad I am not the only one with Skew on the brain!! Itching to start mine.
ReplyDeletemini mochi!! I've been wanting to try some for awhile now, but have resisted so far (I've already got a lot of other great self-striping yarns I need to knit through first!). Love the colorway you chose--it's a fun rainbow, but a more sophisticated rainbow than some of the pure cotton candy, kids rainbow colorways I've seen.
ReplyDeleteThat yarn looks divine! I really like the transitional color changes. I think you picked a perfect pattern to show them off. I've been wanting to knit this sock pattern. I started it once, but my foot is too narrow to fit the pattern as written, and I'm too lazy to re-figure the stitches... but some day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors in the sock yarn and it looks great in the pattern. Now you have me thinking about a yarn in my stash that might work well as Skew socks. Hmmmm. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased to hear you had a good response to your last posting, given your experience of this IRL, it was really brave of you :)
ReplyDeleteI love your sock! I knit these once for a swappy thing, really fun pattern!
This yarn is so beautiful! These socks must be so much fun to knit! I look forward to seeing them on your feet! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI just took a peek at the pattern on Ravelry. Sooooo Cooool. These socks are going to be so neat looking in that yarn!! And toe up is my favorite method too.
ReplyDeleteYour skews look great already. I'm looking forward to seeing how the color moves around the heel.
ReplyDeleteAnd I actually never heard of a secular humanist. So I spent some time reading about it. Thanks to you, I am better educated.
It will be interesting to see how that pattern turns out with a longer vargiated yarn. I think they are fabulous so far though :)
ReplyDeleteThose socks are looking fantastic!!
ReplyDeletelove, love, love that yarn! I can't wait to see the finished socks. I'm glad to hear that many kind words on your last post. It truely is the difference in our personalities that make us who we are. More people would do well to respect our difference! Thanks for speaking out about what has made you who you are.
ReplyDeleteI made some Skew and I love them. The construction makes them a little tricky to get on and off, so I suggest you try them on many time after you turn the heel, but I love mine and I know you'll love yours too. The colors are really great!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm using mini mochi for my striped hitchiker. I have to say, due to the single ply, it makes my hands itch thankfully I'm using a silk blend with it to help soften it up.
ReplyDeleteI tried to read the rest of your post and the photos are pretty ... but couldn't get past "super secret"!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a bit of suspense and intrigue to keep things interesting ... can't wait :)
Both this yarn and this pattern are on MY LIST !
ReplyDeleteThanks for inspiration
Hugs
I was trying to imagine why someone would have fear or animosity towards your beliefs and then I thought maybe the term humanist sounds a little scary if it doesn't come with a link to Wikipedia explaining it? :) I had not heard the term unschooled before either. Thanks for educating me!!!
ReplyDeleteSocks look great! :)
Gorgeous! How are you liking the single ply? My LYS has some beautiful single-ply sock yarn, but I've been nervous to try it. Skew is such a cool pattern!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors, anxious to see your progress. Popped in several times without leaving a comment, as I hadn't seen an update. Sure hope you're ok, been awhile.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Bummer that you hated the first one. I was just sure they were going to be lovely!
