Work-in-progress Wednesday - #11

I'm back from my trip to Las Vegas, it was definitely an interesting experience!  I was able to get quite a lot of knitting done over the course of the trip and so in the next few days I'll have some new projects to show!

But until then I'll show you my current WIPs:

Knitting:

A family friend recently had a baby and so I'm happily working away on a new sweater in this jaunty red Berroco Vintage.  The pattern is Garter Yoke Baby Cardi by Jennifer Hoel, a project I have knitted before and really enjoyed!

I'm also still powering away on this cotton sweater in Classic Elite Yarns Classic Silk.  So far I like the pattern (Gaia by Kristen TenDyke), but the lace sections are taking me a little longer than I anticipated.

Misc:

I'm a little more than halfway done with my cashmere sweater upcycling project.  Rather than post yet another photo of my plying spindle, I thought I would show how much better the yarn looks after plying.

The yarn is really attractive and soft and I'm hoping to have enough by the end to make a small sweater.  It is definitely taking me a while to ply this much yarn and I've been looking into wheel options for that very reason.

I hope that you are all having a great Wednesday and I hope that you also join in for WIP Wednesday with Tami's Amis.

  1. That cashmere really does look much better now that you've plied it! You've got a nice, tight twist going on, which should combat the pilling nature of cashmere, too, so I suspect you'll have a lovely sweater when all's said and done.

I'll admit I'll be a little sad if you get a wheel-- you're a very prolific and talented spindle spinner, and it seems like there aren't many spindle spinners compared to wheel spinner-- but I look forward to seeing the beautiful yarns you'll produce!

  2. Oh boy the city of sin! Was that your first time to Vegas?
The colorway for the baby cardi is sweet like freshly picked strawberries!
How do you like working with cotton? Does it stretch on you? That is such a wonderful celery green and you've accomplished so much so far!
You are so patient to upcycle. It'll be interesting to see what it turns out to be. Did you take a pic of what it was before?

  5. Super colour for the baby cardi, have added the pattern to my library for baby Jones. I wasn't that keen on Vegas the 2nd time round, do tell what you thought of it

  6. So, what happened in Vegas? Did it stay in Vegas?

You have very nice WIPs at those needles! The baby cardigan pattern is one of my favorites; cannot wait to see your FO. Love that red!

  11. If you do get a wheel, I have opinions I'd want to share with you (if you want to hear any of them)

I'm loving that reclaimed yarn. It is sure amazing how plying can make a good yarn great.

  14. I'm a fan of red, bright, bold and jaunty! It's a luck baby who gets a sweater made with such joy and love. I think a wheel for you is a natural progression and would be another way to expand your spinning skills. I can't imagine that you would abandon your spindle...

  16. Excellent job on that cashmere! I can't believe how different it looks in the before and after pics. Hang in there with Gaia -- it's such a pretty sweater, I have a feeling it will be worth the slog!

  19. Wow! You are such a busy bee. Love all your yarny goodness. Vegas is such a fun place to visit. I don't gamble, but still enjoy touring all the neat hotels there. Bel Lagio is my favorite followed closely by the Venetian as it had the better shopping in my opinion.

  20. Oooh! Love how the cashmere looks after plying! I totally need to try upcycling some nice sweater yarn: it's definitely on my fiber-related to-do list. :) Your Gaia is looking wonderful, and I love the cheery red Berocco!

  21. Your sweater looks so gorgeous! I just can't wait to see it finished. Also watching you un-ravel and respin that sweater is really inspiring me to do the same! It all just looks so wonderful.

  22. The Gaia is coming on nicely though - I bet you finish it quicker than you think!
And OH how I love the look the Baby Cardi. The colour is perfect and the recipient will be over over the moon about it!

The cashmere looks lush - the plying has done it a world of good and you will turn it into something stunning, I am sure

  24. You can see how soft the cashmere is in the pictures. I love my cashmere sweater. XD

  25. You are so busy! Definitely a great transformation of the recycled yarn - I can't wait to see what you make of it. I can only imagine how soft that skein of cashmere is.

  26. The red yarn is so pretty for a baby garment (I'm not too crazy for pastels). The recycled yarn should look (and work) a lot better after washing too.

  27. So much knitterly goodness, Ivy.
Love the color of each of your projects.

  29. That will be quite a jaunty sweater for a very lucky bebe! I wish I had been a knitter when I had my own babies...but will settle for knitting for the Grands. I have been following your upcycle project and find it amazing--what a great idea, and affordable way to get exquisite yarn-providing you have the tools, time and talent to get it fit for re-knitting!
