I had no idea that finishing something substantial would make me feel this good. I have remembered that this is one of the reasons I knit and spin, that rush of satisfaction that I get when I wind that handspin into a (un)tidy skein or weave in that last end on something I simply cannot wait to wear!
Sorry...back to the handspun...
This is handspun from 100% Romney wool, it is 2-ply DK weight and about 220 yards. It has a rough edge to it, but I felt that it should, it is a rugged sort of fiber. I love the nice natural color too.
In knitting related news, last weekend I went to a bookstore to look for a specific magazine, predictably I didn't find it, but look what I did find:
Apparently Barnes and Noble carries a large array of knitting magazines! To many of you this is probably old news, but I had no idea! I always assumed that they might have Vogue Knitting and Interweave, but not such a wide selection (and some I had never seen before).
Also, this post is brought to you thanks to iPhoto's Photostream which has allowed me to be even more lazy by automatically downloading the photos on my phone to my home computer right after I take them. I love technology.
Now, back to the books for me, I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Gorgeous, gorgeous yarn!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the handspun, I can't wait until I finally finish a skein of legit (non drawing/craft show) handspun. Also those are both great magazines, I hope you enjoy knitting from them :)
ReplyDeleteOhh that handspun looks lovely! Are you going to knit this one up ;)
ReplyDeleteThe rustic look of your handspun is pretty. It must feel so neat to have been able to create that.
ReplyDeleteYes! B&N has lots and I need to go and look for the holiday knitting mags.
That handspun looks great! Romney is a bit rough, so maybe a hat would be a good project choice?
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn, pretty colour. I envy your magazines, I'm becoming a big fan of Knitscene.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous yarn - I know what you mean about the satisfaction of finishing a decent sized project :)
ReplyDeleteIts great finding some good reading material with hopefully some inspiration for that lovely ayrn
ReplyDeleteMitts Romney? Too obvious??
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny about B&N -- about once a month, I pop into a B&N only to peruse their knitting magazines! Your new handspun is gorgeous (not a surprise).
ReplyDeleteBeautifull! Really nice! I did mot finish any spinning since May, need to start again!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was just a little over 7 months pregnant, I was in Kansas City waiting to meet some relatives so I perused the magazines at B&N for an hour before we met. I didn't buy any, because I didn't have time to make any of the amazing projects.
ReplyDeleteYour yarn is stunning! Looking at hand spun always makes me want to spin.
ReplyDeleteooh that yarn just looks gorgeous, i want some!!! I would love to know how you get on with jane austen knits, it looks awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteOooo! Pretty! Do you have a project in mind?
ReplyDeleteLove the spinning! That reminds me....I need to get back to mine. Good to know about B&N. I'll have to check that out the next time I'm in some civilization.
ReplyDeleteOh my, there's a new jane austen knits magazine?! Now I have to order a bunch of yarn to justify the super high shipping costs to Europe.. sigh! ;)
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to spin - my mom has a spinning wheel and she tried to show me how it works but my first skein didn't look very promising(I didn't expect it to but it's still... frustrating?) and the yarn came out waaay too bulky. I'll give it another try though, as soon as I find a good tutorial on how to go about it. Do you have any suggestions for spinning wheel tutorials?
That handspun is just gorgeous! It looks so rustic and cozy. I've never spun Romney wool, but your beautiful yarn is making me want to give it a try! Ooooh, and that issue of Knitscene is one of my favorite magazines, I just keep going back to it for inspiration (although I haven't cast on any of the zillion projects I want to make from it... yet.). Which patterns are your favorite? I'm excited to knit the pictorial lace owl sweater and the gypsy petticoat vest!

I love going to B&N and browse through their knitting magazines once in awhile, they do have a good selection, tho not as good as what Borders did when they were around.
ReplyDeleteNot what you are trying to do, but I'm surprised there hasn't been many Romney and Mitten jokes in the fiber community.
That yarn turned out so gorgeous! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove your hand spun ! ! !
ReplyDeletehugs
Romney is one of my very favorite wool breeds, and your handspun is just gorgeous! Love that deep gray. :)
ReplyDeleteI never find time anymore to sit down and spin. The results are so worth the effort. I love the texture of the yarn you made.
ReplyDeletePumpkin, here's a link to a youtube tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch/?v=ggzyueiBtlo on the jogless jog.
ReplyDeleteDo note that when you do it this way, the end of the round travels one over. So when you knit the old (picked up 1 st from below) and new color together, after this is done, the end of the round marker goes in front of this.
It's lovely! Great job! : )
