Well, how about that?

This time last year I was sadly leaving Massachusetts having graduated from college.  Then a few months ago my parents bought their retirement home 30 minutes away from my college town.  The really funny thing is that I almost decided to go to graduate school at UMASS Amherst, only minutes away!

Massachusetts is a pretty wonderful state and I definitely miss being an easy walk away from Webs.  Getting to come back and visit Northampton was like coming home.  I don't miss the winters here though!

I knew the dangers of going on a yarn spending spree having been deprived of yarn stores for so long, so I limited myself to a few special yarns.

I bought one of my old favorites Plymouth Yarn Worsted Merino Superwash, a yarn I have written about before.  I picked out enough dark red merino goodness for a super special knit-a-long with a dear friend I consider my sister.

I've been wanting to try Socks That Rock for a while now, but Webs is the only yarn store I've been to that carries it.  Oh the colors and the texture!

I couldn't resist getting some madelinetosh merino light either because I have a difficult time finding it and everyone is always knitting the most gorgeous projects out of it.

Anyways, as of yesterday the house now has internet (even though the cable company did not seem to want me succeed) and I'll try and get some knitting accomplished when I'm not engaged in one of my family's favorite activities, gutting and then restoring old houses.

  2. Gorgeous yarn purchases! Looking forward to seeing these beauties become projects.

I've never seen Socks that Rock yarn, but the twist looks similar to Cherry Tree Hill, which I dearly love to knit.

  3. You did amazingly well at Webs! I find that my self control goes right out the window when I visit them:) Sometime when you are visiting the eastern half of the state you'll have to go to Coveted Yarn in Gloucester. It's another shop where I loose control:)

  8. How exciting on so many levels. I love that area of Western Mass. I used to work at the retirement community right of the street from the Atkins Market. Don't know that I would live there again, but I love to visit. It would be nice to have a retirement house there, you'll have to post pictures of the house. And I can't wait to see what you'll do with your new found yummy yarn.

  9. Ivy, you always pick the most gorgeous yarns and colors! I'm curious what you make out of the madelintosh yarn. I've been wanting to try it for years but haven't found a yarn store that carries it yet (except online but I never buy yarn that I haven't touched at least once^^).
Our families seem quite alike ;)

  11. How many houses have you guys gutted and restored?

And I think your yarn choices are divine. What colorway is the Tosh Merino Light?

  14. I so wish that I could stroll over to Webs but alas, it's a three hour drive away! Still, I visit Northampton often as I have a dear friend who lives in the area and whenever I do, Webs is on my itinerary. Great stash enhancement.

  15. You lucky gal! Each yarn is terrific. I've used Plymouth Select. It definitely has spring in it and really knits in definition.

  18. Only three yarn purchases at Webs?! Does living so close to it for so long grant you immunity to the yarn fumes?

I also miss my college days in Massachusetts, but now I'm kicking myself for not picking up knitting earlier so I could have made a pilgrimage to Webs!
