Day 7: Crafting Balance (3KCBWDAY7)

I can hardly believe that this is the last post of the week!  This has been such a great experience and I want to thank everyone who visited me and especially to those of you who took the time to comment.  I have found so many new blogs to follow and gotten to know some great new people, so I would certainly call this week a success!

and moving on....

I'm certainly a knitter, not a crocheter.  I don't have anything against crochet, it's just that I've always struggled with learning it (year and a half later, still can't figure out the granny square).  I definitely learn the best from other people, I learned to knit from my mother and I learned to spin from a teacher at Webs.

So, at this point crochet simply serves as a useful tool I use while steeking or as a part of a cast on or a cast off.  However, after reading a great crochet series by Fig (figknits) a few weeks ago, my desire to learn has come back and learning to crochet is certainly on my list of things to do this summer.

Speaking of steeking, that is definitely an adventure I want to have again in the near future:

I do however, certainly struggle with balancing spinning and knitting, and always have project going for each.  Lucky for me, spinning yields yarn to knit with!

I definitely have some of those days where I only have a short amount of free time and I really want to work on that sweater, but I also really want to spin some more of that fluffy merino!  If only I had more hours in a day.

Speaking of spinning and knitting, I certainly have some catching up to do and some fun things to show you in the upcoming days!

This post is written for Day 7 of Knitting and Crocheting Blog Week 2012 hosted by Eskimimi. To find other posts like this one, check out the website or click here for a complete listing.

  1. Steeking? I need to find out what that is, clueless. Your first paragraph answers my question at the end of my post. I'm glad I found your blog and plan to visit even now that the challenge is over; but I haven't found the blog visiting to be as two way as I had hoped. I've visited lots, and never visit without leaving a comment; but the bulk of those visits and comments haven't been 2 sided; disappointing.

Have fun with your spinning. I could help you with your grannies if we were closer. Don't give up, they're useful in lots of ways.

  4. short sweet simple. Nice post. If I knew more crochet I'd teach you this summer, but I barely know it myself. I know I am the same way with my spinning and knitting, in fact that is what I will probably write about here in a bit

  5. Aaaaah, scissors next to the knitting!!!! The horror, the horrow! Yes I need to get over that given that I want to steek a project sometime over the next year... Your spinning is so gorgeous, it makes me want to learn how to spin!

  6. That is a scary photo!! I have never steeked anything. I really should just get over it and do it.

  7. The jacket I am knitting on at the moment is knit in the round and must be sewn and cut open for sleeves and in the front. So I am so going to get my mom to do it as I don't dare...
Hope you'll get around and learn crochet. I'm sure you can find a lot of great tutorial videos on youtube.

  8. If only there were more hours in the day to knit and spin!
And steeking is on my list of things to learn as well. I'm not afraid to learn, but simply haven't had a project that needed it.

  9. Steeking scares me. Those who do it are very brave. I have a tutorial on my blog for Granny Squares and so does A Stash Addict. Good luck and I hope you give crocheting a chance.

  10. "If only I had two more hours in the day" - I second that wholeheartedly! And wouldn't it be awesome if we didn't have to sleep? Think of all the knitting and spinning that could be accomplished! :) I really loved reading your posts for blog week, and of course, can't wait to read more about your fibery adventures!

  11. Steeking still scares me - but one day....
Dude, the granny square had me giving up crocheting before I even started in seriousness. Once you cracked it you are gonna become a granny-square monster :))))
